I suspect more by design than anything broke - is there a way to make the brake pedal feel less "Mushy". I like a tighter feeling that as soon as you tap it - you get some braking.

The Edge brake pedal has the same mushy feel that a Focus I drove once has. You can stop plenty fine - but you need push the pedal in really far. In contrast - a Taurus X did not feel that way.

So - is there an adjustment or something?
