Just so you Edge owners know, Ford is notorious for slapping on the cheapest brake pads they can. This usually results in hughes amounts of brake dust debris on the rims. Sometimes it's isolated to just the front or the rear. i.e. 2003 Expedition (fronts), 2005 Firve Hundred (rears)

I just hope Ford has listened to the complaints and invested a few more dollars per pad to use the ceramic pads.

Will any new Edge owners please share their experiences with excessive brake dust on the rims so we can gauge this issue. With cheap pads you get major dust build-up in just 4-5 days. It's not something you will notice from a test drive.

Brake Dust, break dust - that's been a real pain on my wife's '05 Five Hundred. Ford did replace the pads a while back, but the problem still exists. The lease is up on the car, so we're getting a New one in about another week. Tried to convince the wife to go for a Edge, but after driving it, she still felt more comfortable in the Five Hundred, so this is the route we're going. Poor timing, but Ford is coming out withe the '08 Five Hundred come late spring otr summer....... minor styling changes, but now getting the 3.5 litre engine. Also just read on line and in yesterdays local paper, that Ford announced that they are going to rename it, and call it the Taurus, once again. We've been happy with the Five Hundred, easy getting in and out, but I think insead of renaming the car, they should work on putting in a little nicer interior. Back in '93, I had a Taaurus SHO, real nice seats ( 8 way power BOTH sides), and thick plush carpeting. In my opinion, when you're spending $30,000 + for a loaded Five Hundred (including Nav system), you should get a little more plushness inside.
Wish all you Edge owners many miles of happy and carefree driving, maybe I'll go for one next year for myself. I really like my Explorer,
but with just the 2 of us, I don't need something that big, just occasional
"hauling", and the Edge has lots more rear seat legroom than my 06 Explorer.

Never mind the dust, my question is "How are the brakes" ??
I have read in a few places that the brakes are terrible.

Anyone have a problem with the braking power of the Edge??

Thanks

I don't have any problem with brake dust or stopping. In fact friends that drive it seem impressed with the brakes, though it could be deceptive as this vehicle feels heavy. I am not sure if the brakes are upgraded with the towing package. I would suggest the towing package to all vehicle owners even if you will never tow, as it will extend the life of your engine and transmission.

I am actually surprised by the LACK of brake dust at all...I have close to 5000 miles on my Edge now, and the wheels barely get any dust on them at all....also, braking is excellent...I have no complaints about stopping at all...it stops better than my E150..

it isnt the quality of the pads because actually ford brake pads are the only brake pads that are tested.yes they do put outsome brake dust but there pads are better quality than that crap you buy at autozone or napa.the best fix for that is to wash the car everyweek.

Ok I work in this field and have to say that Ford has come along way with their brake pads. The have made several changes to rid the annoying brake dust. As far as changing over to a ceramic, expect brake noise. Cheap pads = noise and dust.

I will echo Cobra as to the LACK of brake dust.

Zippo. Zero. Nada. Zilch.

I have 13,500 miles on my Edge...no brake dust problem at all---and, the brakes are excellent!! Much better than a 2007 Ford Five Hundred that I drove for a couple a days a few weeks ago, that's for sure!

Brake dust? No problems here. The breaking power is also excellent. I guess I am comparing apples to apples though. I do not expect this vehicle to breake like a Porsche. Then again, the break service, changes, are $ 850 on my Boxster, and they last only 20k.
